Lot 82088 of our upcoming April 6th Hong Kong auction is a rare Republican China Military Bank Note. This 1912 10 Dollar note catalogs as Pick S3820a and (S/M#C2964-4a). It is graded by PCGS Banknote Grading as About Uncirculated 50 due to paper quality and light circulation.
This note is likely missing from even some of the most advanced collections. This is partly because the 10 Dollar denomination is far more rare than the One and Five Dollar notes and the quality of the example offered here is remarkable. Bearing only a vertical fold at center and some corner folds and handling, the bold inks bring out all the intricate detail of the design. This note also has a desirable low serial number of 001001 and bold signature seals along with the Shanghai overprint. While cross referencing and researching the rarity of this note, we found that the PMG population report shows just a single note graded at the Fine 15 level.
This note will be offered in Session C of our April Hong Kong Auction, Wednesday April 6, 2016, at 1:00 PM HKT. To view lots and bid, visit www.stacksbowers.com.
