We are thrilled to present three physical bitcoins from the Casascius series in our October 2022 Hong Kong Auction. This offering represents the very first appearance of physical cryptocurrency in our Hong Kong venue and it is sure to generate tremendous interest from collectors looking to participate in this exciting category! They are featured near the end of Session H which opens for live bidding at 10AM HKT on Saturday, October 8 (7PM PDT on Friday, October 7).
Highlighting this group is an incredible PCGS MS-67 example of the scarce 2012 Casascius 1 Bitcoin. This particular coin ranks among the very finest known survivors and was acquired directly from Mike Caldwell, the creator of the Casascius series, in November 2012. It is notably superior in condition to the 2013 Casascius 1 BTC that realized $66,000 in our April 2022 sale with a grade of PCGS MS-66. Also offered from this 1 BTC issue in our Hong Kong auction is a PCGS MS-64 example that was acquired as part of the same group directly from Casascius.
Accompanying these two 1 BTC examples is a scarce 2013 Casascius 0.5 Bitcoin graded PCGS MS-64. It is one of only seven examples graded by PCGS and features pleasing honey-gold toning. A similar PCGS MS-64 example realized $31,200 in our April 2022 sale.
