Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio to Offer The Fook Wing Tong Chinese Space Collection in Hong Kong
Stacks Bowers and Ponterio is pleased to offer space collectibles from the Shenzhou 1 in their December 8-9, 2015, Hong Kong auction. These items were stored in the cabin of and traveled into space aboard Shenzhou 1, Chinas first space ship in 1999. Returning to the Earth from space, each piece was examined and certified by The Peoples Republic of China Beijing Notary Office. Each piece is government-certified, individually serial numbered, contains a unique code and has a Notary certificate examined and issued by Beijing Notary Public Office of the Peoples Republic of China.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries and Sotheby’s October Rarities Auction Realizes Nearly $3 Million

On the afternoon of October 1, the Rarities Auction, comprising 135 lots of coins and numismatic Americana, was presented to an active audience in the seventh floor sales room at Sothebys New York headquarters. When the gavel fell on the last lot, a total of $2,993,230 worth of coins, medals, and documents had traded hands. Taking top honor was lot 55, a beautifully toned 1796 No Stars quarter eagle graded MS-61 (PCGS) and bearing a gold CAC sticker, which realized $352,500.

The D. Brent Pogue II Sells For $26 Million in New York
The second installment of the D. Brent Pogue Collection auction by Stacks Bowers Galleries and Sothebys brought $26,120,838 in high bids Thursday night before a full auction gallery at Sothebys headquarters in Manhattan, surpassing the highest pre-sale estimate of $20.6425 million. Widely acclaimed as the most valuable group of coins ever assembled by a private collector, the D. Brent Pogue Collection includes over 600 of the finest early American coins in existence, nearly all struck in Philadelphia between 1792 and 1840. After just two of five planned auctions, the D. Brent Pogue Collection has already netted more than $50 million.

Stacks Bowers and Ponterio Hires Mr. Zhou Shou Yuan as Executive Consignment Director of China

Stacks Bowers and Ponterio has hired Zhou Shou Yuan as its Executive Consignment Director of China. Shou Yuan will focus on gathering consignments and representing Stacks Bowers and Ponterio in mainland China. Shou Yuan, who has collected stamps and coins since the 1990s, most recently founded Shouxi.com in 2013 to provide timely, comprehensive, authoritative and independent third party information and services to collectors of Chinese coins. Shouxi.com is the most influential brand among online and offline interactive platforms in Chinese numismatics.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries Excites The August 2015 Rosemont ANA World’s Fair of Money Show With Impressive Auction Results

Excitement was the buzzword at the annual ANA Worlds Fair of Money held last week in Rosemont, Illinois, a familiar and popular venue for collectors and dealers alike. Adding to the excitement of this annual summer event were two official auction sales of U.S. coins held by Stacks Bowers Galleries. The companys ever-popular Rarities Night session was held August 13 and was  a resounding success. Its 306 premium lots realized over $6.45 million, with fierce bidding activity throughout the entire session. The second of the two sales comprised two sessions and along with the U.S. currency auction and world coins and currency auction, realized over $14 million.

Strong Results Seen in $1.55+ Million Stack’s Bowers ANA World’s Fair of Money Currency Auction
Prices were strong in the Stacks Bowers Galleries Official Currency Auction of the 2015 ANA Worlds Fair of Money held August 14 and 17, as 339 lots of U.S. currency realized more than $1.55 million. The prices realized were a positive indication for the market as it emerges from its usual summer slump. Adding to the optimism was a number of higher valued lots in multiple categories that sold either comfortably within or above their pre-auction estimates.

Stacks Bowers Galleries is pleased to announce the results of their Official Ancients, World Coin and Paper Money Auction of the 2015 ANA Worlds Fair of Money in Rosemont, Illinois.  Overall, prices realized were robust, with many previously soft areas showing a marked increase in bidder activity. It is becoming more apparent with each passing auction that the market is improving, driving up prices, especially on better material.  (All prices realized include the standard buyers premium).
