Though the live sessions of the Stack’s Bowers 2016 January New York International Auction are about to close, there are still many numismatic opportunities to be found in the Internet Only Sessions. A large variety of ancient and world coins can all be found here, with this highlight found in the Internet Session, E, starting Wednesday January 13 at 10:00 AM PT. A plethora of other treasures can be found in both Internet sessions, so be sure to check them both!
Napoleon Bonaparte created the French client state of Lucca and Piombino in central Italy and installed his beloved sister Elisa Bonaparte as Princess and ruler. Her husband Felice Baiocchi was titled Prince of Piombino. The obverse of lot 42553 in our Internet session shows the dual busts of Elisa and Felice facing right, with their names and titles around. The reverse displays the denomination of “5 Franchi” within a wreath, with the issuing state’s name around. This coin features a period after the date signifying its type. Sharply struck with bold lettering and excellent definition, this coin also boasts lovely slate toning and bright luster.
Look for this and other world numismatic rarities in our upcoming January New York International Auction. For details please refer to the Events Calendar link at www.StacksBowers.com. Though our Stack’s Bowers January New York International Auction is no longer open for consignments, we are accepting consignments of world and ancient coins for our August 2016 ANA Auction as well as Chinese and other Asian coins and currency for our April 2016 Hong Kong Showcase Auction. Time is running short, so if you are interested in consigning your coins and paper currency (whether a whole collection or a single rarity) be sure to contact one of our consignment directors.
