The only Barber quarter included in Stack’s Bowers Galleries Coin Resource Center is the series’ key date, the 1901-S. When the database launched, it included 250 key dates of various U.S. series, and the 1901-S was a natural choice for the Barber quarter series.
Though it does not have the series’ smallest mintage (72,664 were struck), the 1901-S is generally regarded as the rarest date in the relatively short-lived series; our CRC entry chalks this up to its relatively small mintage combined with the lack of interest in collecting by mintmark in the early 20th century. A number of other San Francisco issues comprise the series’ key dates.
