Winter greetings from the New York Stack’s Bowers Galleries team! Our Manhattan presence has offered clients a complete numismatic resource center for many decades. We are buying and taking in consignments every day! You can contact us at 212-582-2580 or nyc@stacksbowers.com to set up an appointment or you can just stop by at 470 Park Avenue between 57th and 58th streets! This week I am highlighting a collection of Shipwreck gold going up for auction at the end of March.
Here in New York we received an inquiry about a collection of predominantly shipwreck double eagles along with a highly impressive Kellogg and Humbert 86.36 oz gold bar recovered from the S.S. Central America. The heirs to the collection have great numismatic interest but required some professional advice on how to properly maximize the value of their holdings. Given the clear significance and value of the holdings they felt uncomfortable hitting the road with everything. Therefore, my colleague James McCartney and I jumped in the car to visit them, evaluated the group and gave them their options. We strongly advised the route of consigning it all to auction, and they decided to heed our recommendation. A collection such as this with an interesting story to tell is a great fit for an auction where it can be properly presented to the maximum number of potential buyers. This consignment came in right up against the deadline for our Spring 2024 Showcase Auction and we are excited to be offering it alongside the other fabulous items to be featured in this auction in late March.
We are thrilled about our 2024 Showcase Auction of U.S. coins and currency. It is stacked with eye appeal and rarity, now boosted by this storied group of gold coins highlighted by a magnificent ingot. Best of luck to those bidding in this upcoming auction that will soon be available for viewing and pre-sale bidding at StacksBowers.com. If you would like to take part in our future sales, please contact us at 212-582-2580 or nyc@stacksbowers.com to schedule an appointment with me, James or any of our highly qualified staff to consign your numismatic items to auction.
