Our November U.S. Currency CCO features the Last Chance Hoard of Republic of Texas currency. One of the more interesting items from the collection is lot 92029, a $3-$2-$1-$1 uncut sheet of four notes, graded Very Fine 30 by PMG. (TXCRA3-3-2-1). No. 4041, Plate A-B. Dated July 1st, 1841.
This note is a considerable offering for lone star collectors. It marks the first time we can recall handling a sheet from the Republic of Texas, and it is the only example graded by PMG. Incredibly rare and surely missing from even the most advanced collections of Texas paper, we would not be surprised if our high estimate is met or exceeded to take this treasure home.
Depicted on the $3 is Ceres holding a shield emblazoned with a star, and a cotton stalk is on the left end. On the $2 is a deer standing on a hill, and at center a cowboy is roping a steer. On the pair of $1’s, at left a brave is holding a bow, while at center Ceres is seated within an agricultural scene. The signatures are of Wm. H. Abell and J.H. Raymond. PMG comments “Cancelled”.
