Our Spring 2022 U.S. Currency Auction is now available for viewing and bidding at StacksBowers.com. This week we discuss another neat item from The First National Bank of Palestine (see last week’s blog for a $100 Date Back from the FNB of Palestine). This CH#3694 The First NB of Palestine, Texas 1882 $5 Brown Back is graded Choice Fine 15 by PCGS Banknote.
A rarity from this Anderson County issuer, as this is the first $5 Brown Back to be offered at public auction. Currently, no $5 Brown Backs are listed in the National Bank Note Census for this issuer, and we expect this to be an exciting offer for collectors of Lone Star currency. PCGS Banknote comments "Contemporary Annotation," although this is in reference to a penned date of "Dec 24 190_" to the left of the printed charter date.
We are currently taking consignments for our monthly auctions.
