Q. David Bowers Talks About Flying Eagle Cents

I have been working on the
manuscript for a book relating to Flying Eagle cents of 1856 to 1858 and the
American scene during those years.

The coins can be divided into
these basic varieties:

1856 pattern

1857

1858/7 overdate

1858 Large Letters

1858 Small letters

Beyond the above, there are three
varieties of 1857 cents that have evidence of clashing with dies of other
denominations: half dollar, dollar (most often seen), and double eagle. Do any
MINT STATE examples of the double eagle clash mark cent exist? If so, let me
know as I have not learned of any to date.

All good wishes,

Dave Bowers
