Special Tahiti Trio

In our January New York International Sale we are offering three pieces of the early Tahiti 500 Francs design from the Bank of Indochina. The notes will be offered individually, but they offer a unique opportunity to acquire different types of the same design.

The finest certified Specimen Proof for the design, a PMG 68 EPQ missing only the serial numbers and signatures, is nearly perfect in condition. The note lacks any overprints making it difficult to attribute for inexperienced collectors. The appealing design features a detailed vignette of ships in a bay at top center and a woman with shield at left.

The Pick 13a note is in a CU 62 holder. This particular Stamp Cancelled example bears the 1926 date that is not even listed in the catalog. Prices for the Pick number do not exist above the XF level making it difficult to estimate value. We therefore are opening the note at a conservative level and anticipate that the market will determine its true value.

The Pick 13b 1938 note is difficult to obtain above the Fine level. The reverse of the holder mentions Minor Rust, and an Annotation. Some minor edge splits are mentioned but do not intrude into the design.
