From the Rockaway Collection, an impressive offering of German States crowns and talers, comes lot 3633 in our NYINC auction, a lovely Choice AU example of the popular “Three Brothers” type. Ornately engraved on both sides, the obverse features the half-length portraits of Friedrich II, Albrecht & Christian, who jointly ruled as margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach from 1625-1634.
This 1630 taler is certified by NGC as AU-58 and features deep attractive toning from years of storage in an old paper envelope, similar to all the coins in this important collection. “Brothers” taler types exist for multiple German States and it is interesting to collect different taler types from the extensive series; the Rockaway Collection contains many different German States crowns and talers, including a good variety of “Brothers” types.
If you collect German coins, there is an extensive offering in our NYINC Internet Session (Session D), which closes for bidding on Tuesday, January 13. Be sure to review the listings at StacksBowers.com, and if you are attending the NYINC, be sure to stop by and view the coins. If you have a collection of world coins or banknotes, we are now accepting consignments for our April and August Hong Kong sales, our official auction for the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money and our iAuction Internet sales.
