On behalf of Stack’s Bowers Galleries, I welcome you to the March 2016 Official Currency Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo. We are excited to offer more than 1,000 lots of United States paper money, a nice selection of interesting and rare notes from all genres. Notably, included is a fantastic selection of National Bank notes. Also, we welcome Manning Garrett who has recently joined the Stack’s Bowers currency team as Co-Director of Currency Auctions. Manning brings years of experience to the team, along with an extensive knowledge of bank notes, specializing in National Bank Notes.
Among the outstanding bank notes featured in this catalog are a serial number 1 1882 $5 Brown Back from Fernandina, Florida and a newly discovered Adair, Iowa, Plain Back that is unique for town and charter. Also, presented for bidding will be a wonderful collection of Massachusetts National Bank Notes that includes a serial number 1 Concord 1865 $1 original and a rare 1882 $100 Brown Back from Salem, as well as many other scarce notes that have been off the market for decades or are newly discovered. A handful of high grade Large Size type notes includes a 1905 $20 Gold Certificate "Technicolor" in PCGS 65PPQ and a gorgeous 1869 $20 "Rainbow" in PMG 58.
The list of important notes offered is too extensive for this introduction, so please be sure to look through the entire catalog. We look forward to seeing you in Baltimore and wish the best of success to all bidders and consignors!
Enjoy the paper,
