The present example is of
quality that places it at the top of the populations for both PMG and PCGS. Of
the six PMG 66EPQ’s graded, we sold one last year at our July Baltimore sale
for a staggering $70,500. This cataloger’s favorite trait of this particular
example is punch through embossing that creates a mirror image of the
overprints when looking at the reverse. Other strong features include, lovely
margins, near perfect centering and precise ink clarity.
This series differs from
the far more common 1934 series notes with a Treasury seal at left and the
absence of a blue “10” counter. Also the wording “PAYABLE IN
SILVER COIN TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” as seen on this note, was reworded to
“IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND” for the later issues. It
is hard to imagine that a finer example will ever surface.
