Our upcoming Hong Kong Auction on March 25 at the
Mira Hotel will showcase an incredibly rare 1929 25 Dollar Sarawak note in lot
50442. This is an important opportunity to acquire one of the rarest and most sought
after pieces in the Sarawak catalog. This BWC note is seldom offered in any
form, and it is the first time we have offered one at this venue.
The note shows Charles Vyner Brooke at center, flanked
by palm trees in the vignettes on each side. Vibrant blue color is found on a
light multi-colored underprint that displays an intricate guilloche design.
Government building pictured on the reverse. Just a restoration is mentioned,
which appears to be minor as it is not noticeable without close inspection. The
bold blue inks make a great first impression as they stand out most on the well
centered design. This rarity carries a modest estimate of $10,000 to $12,000
and will certainly be a focal point in any advanced world paper collection. For
collectors of the “25” denomination, it rivals even the very popular Qatar and
Dubai 25 Riyals note.
