A
wonderful mid-grade Fr.2220-F 1928 $5000 bill from the Atlanta Federal Reserve
district will be a highlights in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Official Currency
Auction of the ANA World’s Fair of Money on August 2nd in Denver, Colorado.
The
1928 series $5000s notes are far scarcer than their 1934 counterparts. The
offered note is new to the market bringing the census for this catalog number
up to only six known. This example, graded Very Fine 30 PPQ by PCGS is the
second finest for the catalog number. It is beautifully centered with robust
margins at all sides providing an excellent frame for the powerful design. Deep
green overprints are seen with a large amount of original embossing evident
through the holder. The note is offered as lot #10401 and carries an estimate
of $125,000-$175,000.
