A rare Netherlands Indies Javasche Bank 1895 5 Gulden note realized $5,875 to lead the way in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ World Paper Money Auction held January 12 in conjunction with the 2015 New York International Numismatic Convention.
The note, which was offered as lot #2191 in the auction features an issue date of April 5, 1895. The note displays a full length lathe underprint in brown with black design elements on the face. The back has blue design elements over a brown oval design with the obligation stated in four different languages. A validation stamp with the number 2643 is found in the bottom right corner of the back. This is the first example of Pick 45b that Stack’s Bowers Galleries has ever been able to offer.
