Just 625 Proof Liberty Seated quarters were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1867, issued during the Reconstruction era that followed the end of the Civil War. These were distributed to contemporary collectors as part of the year’s Proof sets, though some were eventually placed into circulation during the economic panics of the late 19th century. It is thought that around 550 survive, most of which grade Proof-63 or lower.
We are excited to offer a lovely Proof-64 (PCGS) CAC 1867 quarter in our December CAC-Only Collectors Choice Online Auction. This piece is beautifully toned with pearly violet color at the centers, framed by electric-blue and turquoise iridescence. Just 12 coins have been ranked higher by CAC in this category, confirming the truly challenging quality of this issue.
