The success of our iAuctions sales has been spectacular because of the quality of the many coins we offer in each sale. The response from our website friends and others has been strong, and we are busy at work as you read this on our next iAuctions event.
The present iAuctions sale includes what could be the best start ever to a Liberty double eagle collection – a Choice AU-58 from the first collectable year of the series, 1850. In 1849 the Gold Rush was in full swing and the need for a large gold coin in commerce was instrumental in the striking of our first double eagle in 1849. However, as many collectors no doubt know, the 1849 double eagle is unique and is stored permanently in the Smithsonian Institution.
Enter the 1850. It is readily available in most circulated grades, though the known population of collectable pieces is largely made up of VF and EF specimens. The Choice AU-58 grade offered in our sale is ideally suited for quality-conscious as well as value-conscious collectors. The offered coin is ever-so-close to Mint State but falls far shy of the oftentimes prohibitive cost of a Mint State example of the date.
We expect spirited bidding for this Choice AU 1850 double eagle. However, only one successful bidder will claim the prize. If you’re not familiar with our iAuctions, we invite you to get on board and enjoy the auction from the comfort of your own home. Take a look at our new and improved website and see if the iAuctions event is for you. We’re certain it will be, and we hope to hear from you soon!
