A nearly uncirculated Fr.1220 $1000 Gold Certificate will be featured in Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Official Currency Auction of the ANA World’s Fair of Money this August in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The note was recently graded and encapsulated by PMG with a grade of Choice Uncirculated 58.
This stunning design type features Alexander Hamilton at the center flanked by gold overprints at left and right. Bold 1000 counters are seen in each corner. The ornate orange printed back features the Great Seal of the United States at center. It is estimated that about 41 examples of this variety are known in all grades. From the print run of 80,000 we estimate that fewer than 50 survive. This is certainly among the finest examples known of the catalog number.
