IRVINE, Calif. (September 15, 2015) Stack’s Bowers Galleries is delighted to announce our official auction of the October 2014 PNG Invitational, scheduled for October 10 and 14 at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City. The sale features the gold dollar collection of Milt Tretiak and numerous other important properties.

Stack’s Bowers is honored to have been selected by the Professional Numismatists Guild as an official auctioneer of that organization’s inaugural New York Invitational show. We expect this event to be a favorite with collectors in the Metro New York area and around the country this year and for many years to come.

Highlights of our sale include a 1794 Sheldon-29 cent in MS-65 BN (NGC) and a 1879/8 Shield nickel certified by PCGS as Proof-69, the sole finest graded by either major service. Silver coins are nicely represented, starting with half dimes, including an AU-53 1805 and a Proof-64 1829, both certified by PCGS with CAC stickers. A PCGS-certified Proof-64 1835 dime and an MS-65 1875-CC 20-cent piece in an old NGC holder are both expected to attract premium bids. A 1796 16 Stars half dollar in VF-35 (PCGS) and an 1802 half dollar in AU-58 (PCGS) CAC are both certain to generate excitement. Representing the Capped Bust half dollar series is an 1811/10 in MS-64, certified by PCGS and with a CAC sticker.

Among silver dollars will be found an 1803 BB-252 that has been certified in the spectacular grade of MS-63 by PCGS. An 1839 Gobrecht dollar of the extremely rare Die Alignment III, graded Proof-65 by PCGS and with CAC approval, will long be remembered by silver dollar collectors and pattern specialists alike. An 1840 Liberty Seated dollar, issued during the first year of the design type, is graded Proof-62 by PCGS and has a CAC sticker. This coin is one of just 15 to 20 examples thought to exist.

The federal gold series includes an 1855-D dollar in AU-53 and an 1861-D dollar in MS-61. There’s a PCGS-certified 1905-S double eagle in the exceptional grade of MS-65, easily in the top 1% of pieces certified.

Rounding out the sale is a PCGS-certified 1954-S Carver-Washington half dollar in MS-67 and a rare 1855 Wass, Molitor & Co. $20 in VF-35 (PCGS).

In addition to the rarities, there are many hundreds of coins in price ranges that will appeal to every collector. Catalogs are being printed and will be in the mail shortly. The entire sale will be available for viewing and bidding at StacksBowers.com.
